Gillian Cross never knew her father. Lieutenant Frank Woodward was second in command of HMS Neptune.
It hit 4 mines off the coast of North Africa during World War II, en route to become a part of the New Zealand navy.
Her crew included 150 New Zealanders and 38 South Africans. It sank very quickly and 764 men on board died, leaving a sole survivor, Norman Walton.
