The flow of the water is calming and the baby can listen and maybe imagine. You’d sing it for about an hour, sometimes longer, especially when the baby’s grumpy and not in the mood to sleep.
It reminds me of back home when I was a baby growing up. I remember the comfort of lying on my mum’s back and my auntie’s too. I was about five when my auntie stopped putting me on her back so I have very vivid and passionate memories of that. It takes me back.
We only speak Hausa within the house but outside it’s just English - so I don’t think they’ll be able to sing it.
