Last Christmas for Dunningford

Parents from one of Havering's best primary schools have watched their children performing their last Christmas concert before the school is closed down.

Despite having good Ofsted results Dunningford primary in Elm park is being closed, and it's pupils will be moved to another site.

The school had been meant to merge with nearby Ayloff school next year, which would have meant some teachers could have been kept on.

But recent changes to legislation mean the school now has to be closed altogether.

It means staff could face redundancy, and parents are worried about how their children will adjust to the upheaval.

"It’s heartbreaking…We’re all going home knowing…there’ll be no school in times to come”."

Linda Butler

There were emotional scenes as mums and dads watched their children singing carols and playing in the school’s orchestra.

Mum Linda Butler told me that “It’s heartbreaking…

This school’s been a huge part of my family for four years- I have two children here…

For a small school they make a huge effort with the kids…

We're all going home knowing … there'll be no school in times to come”.
