JCG Prep beat Plat Douet in the final of the local stage of the ESFA girls U11 6-aside tournament at FB fields. The girls started the competition with a goalless draw against D’Auvergne despite many chances on goals. They immediately used the break in between matches to hone their shooting skills which paid excellent dividends as they battled hard against Rouge Bouillon school who had a strong squad. | "This team has much promise and potential" | | Coach, James Paul |
The girls quickly found the target which was followed by a quick reply by Rouge Bouillon. The JCG prep girls then used a mixture of space, possession and solid defending to boss the game, scoring another three goals. The match finished 4-1. With Samares being unable to attend the tournament, all teams were awarded a 1-0 win. This put JCG Prep top in the group stages and set them up for a semi-final against First Tower. JCG Prep dominated this fixture with two superb goals and an excellent display of passing and moving. The final was then played against Plat Douet, always a strong opponent. A combination of hard running and quality passing put the JCG Prep girls up 1-0 and the girls dealt intelligently with counter-attacks on their goal. The JCG Prep girls were then awarded a penalty which was swiftly executed by Eva Hurst, who slotted a beautiful shot straight into the corner of the Plat Douet goal. Are you watching England? The match finished 2-0 to JCG Prep. The girls conceded only one goal in the event which was a credit to all the team who defended solidly as soon as they lost possession. The girls now follow in the footsteps of last years JCG Prep football team to the regional finals in Taunton in March or April. Last year the girls won their group and made it to the national finals in Keele. The girls are keen and enthusiastic to do their best for Jersey and the Channel Islands in March and despite having a young squad (half of the girls are still in Year 5) this team has much promise and potential. We hope to just go out there, enjoy it and play good football! JCG Prep Squad: Jodie Le Cornu, Louise Darwin, Georgia Stevenson, Jessica Bennetts, Hannah Johnson, Eva Hurst, Chloe Butel and Hannah Scriven. |
