The walls Fill holes in walls and remove laminate from all surfaces. Where necessary skim the walls with plaster and leave to dry before painting. Paint the walls a rich cream colour. On either side of the chimneybreast, paint a panel of sage green paint. |

Flooring Level the floor with 6mm ply to cover the existing floorboards. On top of this, limestone coloured porcelain tiles. This will give the room a real sophisticated feel. |

Fireplace Consider installing a gas fire in the fireplace. Gas fires are easy to use and cut down on the amount of dust in a room. |

Dining area Create a dining area at one end of the room. Choose light pine furniture to keep with the airy feel in the room. |

Fabric touches To give the room an Indian feel, why not use some stunning Indian fabrics? Choose shimmering gold and red sari fabric for a table runner and some floaty silver for the curtains. |

Sofas Cover cream sofas with throws made from the same sari fabric used for the table runner. Add some coloured cushions to create an intimate living area. |

Artwork Using leftover scraps from the curtain fabric and soft furnishings, it is possible to make some lovely framed pictures for the wall. Simply cut out a design or area from the fabric and with material glue, stick onto card and then place in a frame. |

Finishing touches Finally, dress the room with bright green and white plants such as daisies to give the room a homely feel. |
