I think that's ... that's the problem isn't it, when you start digging into family history. You can stir up things that people would rather forget, or that they've perhaps created a story about, and you mustn't do anything which would suggest that that story is not the complete truth.

I've ... I suppose, I've reached a dead-end, in one way. In that my father, who is the character I'm interested in ... from what I found out at County Hall, going through archives, I believe he is dead. I am not absolutely sure but it seems likely.

And if I was a bit braver and asked more people and perhaps I could find out for definite, but I'm fairly sure he's dead. And my mother's dead. And so - well all my close family are dead. So there are going to be lots of questions which will never be answered.

I think, yes, it does require bravery. Because you could find out things which you don't want to know. And perhaps bravery isn't quite the right word - wisdom perhaps.
