Dolbadarn Castle, Llanberis, Gwynedd
Dolbadarn is a particularly fine example of a native-built, Welsh castle. The castle was built around 1230 by the Welsh leader, Llywellyn ap Iorwerth (Llywellyn the Great, Prince of Gwynedd 1194-1240), and pre-dates the numerous castles built after Edward's invasion and conquest of Wales.
The castle stands as testimony to Llywellyn's considerable influence and support in Wales.
