Edward Bruce, (died 1318), brother of Robert, became titular King of Ireland 1315-18. Edward Bruce landed near Carrickfergus in 1315, with the initial support of the Ulster nobles. Robert had written in advance of his brother's landing: 'all the Kings of Ireland, the prelates and clergy and to the inhabitants of all Ireland, our friends'. His proposition was clear - an alliance against the English for liberty.
Edward Bruce was killed in October 1318 in the battle at Faughart, near Dundalk.
