
Tipu Sultan (c 1750-1799) was born in Devanhalli, Karnataka.
His father, Hyder Ali, made himself Muslim ruler of Mysore around 1761. From an early age Tipu accompanied his father on military campaigns, assisting in both the First and Second Mysore Wars.
Tipu took over as ruler of Mysore after the death of his father around 1782.
