Edward III's tomb, Westminster Abbey
Edward III (1312-77), ruled during the years when England's people died in their thousands from the plague, also known as the Black Death. Edward himself died of a stroke in 1377, and was succeeded by Richard of Bordeaux, a child of ten, who was crowned Richard II in the same year.
