its a sparrowhawk

Chris
Looks like a sparrowhawk to me

Mike Barton
I reckon it's a sparrowhawk. It's a frequent visitor to my garden too.

Kevin Smith
This is a male Sparrowhawk, I know that it is amale because its breast has a red tint. The male is approximately one-third smaller than the female and consequently takes smaller prey compared to the female.

Duke Theedam
yes, often confused with a Peregrine, but it's smaller,Sparrowhawk it is...

John Miles
Yellow eye, blue upper parts, rufous chest, slight barring on tail = Male Sparrowhawk.

Alex STUART
According to my bird bookit is a male Sparrowhawk

Shirley Warr, B-o-t-W.
I have also had a suggestion of - Peregrine Falcon, - any comments? I seemed to think it might be a Sparrowawk from abook I have, but I couldn't be sure. It was quite a big bird, about like a pigeon, but a 'slimmer' body! Grey on top, with very creamy colour underneath and very feint banding on the tail feathers. Thanks to all for your replies.Shirley.

Joanna Fidler-Russell
At first I thought it was a kestrel but after looking through my brothers birds of prey book it's a male sparrowhawk.

K.Smith
