The "final part of the Wachowski brothers' sci-fi series starts where Reloaded left off i.e. with confusion battling boredom". It also ends with an impressive battle scene, and if you own the other two Matrix DVDs, you'll probably want to complete the collection. With the two-disc release of The Matrix Reloaded "a decidedly empty experience devoid of quality features", our expectations were low for this latest disc set. We're pleased to say, though, that The Matrix Revolutions DVD comes with extras actually worth watching.

Smug I Presume?

If you've seen the pile of Matrix discs released so far, you'll be familiar with the increasingly smug presentation of the added features. That Agent Smith-like veneer is still with us, but there is one compensation. Joel Silver, he of the world's most disgusting shirt collection, is for once near absent from the various featurettes. Normally we have to put up with a suffocating raft of grandiose self-congratulatory comments from him, but for this two-disc set his opportunities for a speech are pleasingly more limited.

A Shower Of Cash

You can actually understand why there's a slightly back-slapping attitude throughout the featurettes. You do get to see some great behind-the-scenes footage of a visually impressive production, including the 17-minute final battle scene where vast amounts of money are burned into film right before your eyes.

The Cool And The Fun

Big blockbuster DVDs like this should be fun, and you'll get that from some of the extras. The Agent Double Smith featurette with the 'grumpy/neutral/happy' rubber masked Smiths is bizarre, while Keanu Reeves provides some laughs in the stunt featurette where he lets us in on his world of pain. As for cool, there's a lot to be admired in the stunning miniature model effects in the Super Big Mini Models featurette. Combined with undeniably impressive sound and picture presentation for the movie, this is a sci-fi disc set worth watching.
