Pan Grounded By King Big budget JM Barrie adaptation Peter Pan has had its wings clipped at the UK box office by the phenomenon that is The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King. After being, er, panned by many critics (not us, mind), Peter Pan came a distant second to The King. Peter Jackson's movie has now taken almost $50million in the UK, over half of The Two Towers' total UK gross.
Elsewhere, Anthony Minghella's Cold Mountain received a (can you guess how predictable this is going to be?) warm reception from London audiences, taking almost $700,000 for sixth spot. That put it ahead of Denzel Washington's Out Of Time, which underperformed with $550,000 and seventh place.
The films set to jostle for second place this week include Cold Mountain (going nationwide) and the Farrelly brothers' Stuck On You. And, er, that's it. Sorry.
