Dumb & Dumber DVD (1994)

Dumb & Dumber is Jim Carrey at the height of his comedy powers. With the release of this new UK DVD, fans will continue to be denied the special edition they so richly deserve. Until New Line in the US puts out a features-packed disc, it's not going to happen here. But this is at least better than the previous release.

Annoying Noises

"Do you want to hear the most annoying noise ever?" asks Jim Carrey. Well of course we do, but not in the lousy stereo mix on the old DVD. This new disc comes with a 5.1 mix that's powerful and even has some comedy effects to liven things up. Add to that a reasonable picture transfer and we're better off with this new disc.

Extra Features?

Well, the animated menus do offer some silly distractions like "Don't Play Feature" as well as "Play Feature". There's also a pointless Nice Hooters feature where you can shoot down some owls, but it's not very entertaining or challenging. What we want to see is outtakes and deleted footage. To that end, though, a scene bizarrely cut from the old DVD - of Jim and Jeff picking up some Native Americans - has been restored.

EXTRA FEATURES

  • Nice Hooters interactive game
  • This DVD was reviewed on a JVC XV-N5 DVD player.
