Now that Tom Sizemore has some extra time on his hands, we recommend he doesn't bother watching Big Trouble on DVD, even though he's in it. He'd be better off with Barry Sonnenfeld's Get Shorty, rather than this similar but weaker and tiresome movie about a mysterious suitcase that becomes the focus of rival attentions. Still, the pulling power of star Tim Allen often defies critical interpretation, plus the DVD comes with a handy shortened viewing option if your ability to watch Allen for long periods is rather limited.

Short, But Not Short Enough
Access the Five Minute Movie option on the DVD and you'll be confronted with the question, "No time to sit down and watch the movie?" If your answer is yes (er, why have you just bought the disc?), you can watch a super-edited version. We'd almost be tempted to recommend this short cut of the film, but then you'd miss out on all those priceless Tim Allen gags...
Barry's New Car
What should have been shortened to a few minutes is the Barry Sonnenfeld audio commentary. It's just so dull. Barry needs to remember that he's talking about making a comedy, but with his often technical dissection of the production, he makes the experience deadly dry. The most exciting thing we learn is that he has a new BMW M5. Of course, the danger of buying this DVD is that we'll line Barry's pockets for a new car in time for his next commentary.
