We may have thought that The Matrix Reloaded was "smart, sexy and action packed" when it hit cinemas in May, but the two disc DVD release is a decidedly empty experience that's devoid of quality features. If you just want to see the film again, then disc one doesn't disappoint, with stunning visuals and gut wrenching sound (although the lack of DTS is a bore).
Chuck It
Disc two is little better than a glorified Frisbee. The animated menus spin a veneer of excitement but behind them lies a mass of promotional fluff that treats the consumer like an idiot. There's the odd fleeting glance of something worth seeing, but presumably the best material is being saved for another DVD release in the future. If you don't want to fork out twice, hang on for the special edition.

The Good Bits
The only extra feature of any redeeming value is a breakdown on the freeway chase sequence, which does boast some great behind-the-scenes footage on this enormously elaborate scene. There's also a highly amusing MTV Awards skit that clearly must have cost a few bucks to make.
Tarnished Silver
Anyone desperate to see promotional featurettes for The Animatrix, the Enter The Matrix video game (which few seem to like), and for tie-in phones? The one dubious silver lining is indeed Joel Silver, who as ever is a one man PR machine. "We've raised the bar so high there is no bar," he exclaims. After this DVD release, you'll have to go diving to find the bar, Joel.
