If you thought that Paul Thomas Anderson's "Punch-Drunk Love" was an unusual romantic comedy, then just wait until you get hold of the cryptic DVD release.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture Sharp and near flawless, this handsome transfer looks sensational, especially during the kaleidoscopic colour sequences.
Sound Blessed with a Dolby 6.1 sound mix (this includes a channel for a rear centre speaker), the amount of ambient detail is quite amazing. This works well for the supermarket scene where the various mechanical hums penetrate right into you.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Blossoms and Blood The special features for this DVD release are found on disc two and are certainly unusual in what they do. Blossoms and Blood is a 12-minute music video made up from scenes in the film set to Jon Brion's orchestral score.
Scopitones These are 12 short abstract pieces made up from scenes in the film and unused footage, to form what is a glorified animated photo gallery.
Deleted Scenes There are two scenes in this section, one of which is quite amusing with Adam Sandler's character having to deal with a deluge of phone calls from his sisters.
Mattress Man Commercial Here it is in its full glory.
Additional Extra Features Also on the DVD are a teaser and theatrical trailer.
