The Anderson Tapes DVD (1971)

Sean Connery tries to escape the typecasting of Bond by turning into a professional thief for Sidney Lumet's cracking surveillance thriller. The DVD release lacks any real extra features so is rated on the technical presentation of the film.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture A little grain does creep into the image from time to time, but the print used for this transfer is in good condition.

Sound The 2.0 mono mix is clear as a bell. Given that it has to deliver a bizarre musical score that comes across like a series of speaker test tones, it copes very well.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The lack of special features on this disc is a disappointment. The calibre of the talent involved in the film is top drawer and this feature was the movie acting debut for Christopher Walken.

The surveillance theme is one that has been expanded on by many other thrillers since. A featurette reflecting that would have made for fascinating viewing.

What you do get on this disc are trailers for "The Anderson Tapes", "The Odessa File", and for some stupid reason "The Bone Collector".
