Turns out this wasn't quite the "Lucky Break" FilmFour was hoping for at the box office, but it might fare a little better on DVD - no thanks to the extra features, though.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture A good transfer ensures that the incredibly bleak settings aren't made worse from on-screen grain.
Sound A vigorous 5.1 mix handles the music score with bass-heavy gusto, while dealing just as well with subtle ambient effects.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Audio Commentary James Nesbitt and director Peter Cattaneo turn up for this audio commentary, but frankly they shouldn't have bothered. Their conversation runs along such riveting lines as this - Cattaneo: "That's Dartmoor, yeah?" Nesbitt: "Yeah". Perhaps the highlight is discovering from Cattaneo that scenes with more than two people were harder to handle than scenes with just two people. Who could have guessed that?
Featurette Some actors should get stand-ins to do interviews, especially when they start babbling about pathos and humour. Such nonsense is rife in this congratulatory featurette that covers plot and character description.
Additional Extra Features Even if this was the last DVD left on Earth, you'd be unlikely to be able to sit through the gnawingly dull interviews and B-roll footage that are on this disc. There's also a teaser trailer, the theatrical release trailer, and a trailer gallery for better FilmFour titles than this one. Technically this DVD is excellent, but most of the extra features are assembled from promotional press footage that even film hacks shouldn't have to suffer.
