Kirsten Dunst

Spider-Man

Interviewed by Alec Cawthorne

Do you think the film is true to Stan Lee's original creation?

I think it is. We altered it a little bit but that's artistic licence. You have to take things and modify it to a certain degree. I think fans won't be disappointed. I think they'll really love the film. It's got so many great elements to it.

How do you and Tobey bring the relationship between Peter and Mary Jane to life?

We definitely have a good chemistry but it's like the forbidden fruit - we never really quite get it together. In the film, I'm sort of the girl next door and he's the boy and we've known each other our whole life but our love is unrequited.

How evil is the Green Goblin?

He's evil but he's really funny. I don't think kids will be scared of him. Willem [Dafoe], who plays the character, is really good in the film.

Tell us about the special effects...

The special effects are amazing. Sometimes it looks campy but I don't mind that because the film has a comic book style. It's pretty seamless between the special effects and what we shot in real life.
