Robin Williams grabs the microphone and lets rip his anarchic brand of humour in a depiction of the effect that maverick DJ Adrian Cronauer had on US Forces radio in Saigon in 1965. As you'll learn from this new DVD release, Williams' radio monologues only take up 12 minutes of the film's running time, but luckily for fans, this DVD comes with 12 minutes more.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture "Good Morning Vietnam" gets a fair transfer to DVD, with no particular complaints apart from a slight murkiness in some moments.
Sound The original stereo mix has been upgraded to 5.1, but don't expect much more than front effects and some light atmospherics for the rear speakers.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Production Diary This is a new retrospective half-hour documentary on the production of the film, and features interviews galore. Based on the experiences of Adrian Cronauer, he's on hand to breakdown what in the film was real, and what wasn't. As it turns out, the artistic licence was heavily in use for this production, but Cronauer doesn't seem to mind.
The scriptwriter is equally easy going. Mitch Markowitz's work was wildly embellished upon by Robin Williams' relentless improvisational stream of nonsense. It was usual that the camera ran out of film before Williams stopped talking, but he was a little thrown by the fact that the mainly British and Thai crew were left stony-faced, as most of the US-related gags meant nothing to them.
Raw Monologues It's surprising that there isn't more than 12 minutes of additional Robin Williams' outtakes here, but the material on offer is breathtakingly fluid.
Additional Extra Features Let's not forget that there's a trailer and teaser trailer on this DVD too!
