The Hole DVD (2001)

Thora Birch steps into "The Hole", a film that's sparked a minor revival of interest by UK producers to make horror movies. Fans of the film will find little to grumble about the presentation of it on disc, but the extra features deserve to be buried in a deep pit.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture It seems that the hole lacks much in the way of good lighting, but the superior transfer of the film keeps the image detailed and sharp.

Sound A healthy helping of 5.1 enhanced jitters is available from a sound mix that is generous with the bass and creepy effects alike.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary Director Nick Hamm's approach to this commentary is to take us through the process of how to tell a story through film. Whether this is good advice or not is up to you, but if the same guy could spew up "Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence", then you have to wonder why he feels in a position to lay down guidelines to making a movie work.

Deleted Scenes Seven scenes of minor interest plus two alternate openings.

Additional Special Features Also on the disc are cast and crew filmographies, a trailer in 5.1 (a rarity), and we should give mention to the 3D animated menus which imaginatively put together.
