Play Misty for Me DVD (1971)

Long before "Fatal Attraction" was frazzling viewers nerves, Clint Eastwood starred and made his directorial debut with this wonderfully tense thriller, where a casual affair becomes a deadly obsession. Thirty years on and Universal now present this anniversary DVD, packed with brilliant extra features that no Clint fan should miss.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture This film looks sensational on DVD. The vibrant colours of the garish clothes in this film are bright but clear, and the freshness of the image is excellent.

Sound It's a shame that a new sound mix wasn't put together but the mono track is fine, if a little weak on bass.

SPECIAL FEATURES

A Look Back on "Play Misty for Me" As with the "Dirty Harry" DVD release, Clint makes an excellent interviewee and talks with real passion and interest about the film. Universal agreed to let him direct the movie, but as his agent was told, "We don't mind him directing. We just don't want to pay him". Clint did get a percentage deal though which more than made up for the lack of a director's fee. Littered with behind-the-scenes shots, cast and crew interviews, this 50-minute documentary is a pleasure to watch.

The Beguiled, Misty, Don, and Clint Film historian Richard Schickel offers an analysis of this time in Clint's career, and Clint himself also discusses the choices he's made, and certainly comes across as happy overall.

Clint Eastwood on DVD Here's Clint talking about how much he loves the format and the new lease of life it's giving his films. As he rightly points out, technically most of his films now look and sound better than they did when originally released.

Image Galleries There are three large image galleries on this DVD. Animated and set to music, they cover everything from Clint directing on set to the numerous conceptual poster designs.

Additional Extra Features Production notes, cast and crew biographies and filmographies, trailer, and DVD-ROM web links. Plus, through the DVD-ROM features you can compare the script to scenes from the film, and print out the entire screenplay should you wish.
