Blow Dry DVD (2001)

Remember "Strictly Ballroom"? Well, shades of that comedic delight can be found in "Blow Dry". A hairdressing competition brings out rivalries in a fabulous assortment of camp characters. And as we soon find on this DVD release, there's truth behind the madness.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture Ever happened upon a DVD review that breathlessly relates the clarity of the picture by describing the detail of the hair on characters? Well there's nothing wrong with the image quality on this disc, and you really can make out individual hairs on... (Stop it! - Ed).

Sound Wouldn't you be tempted to go more often to the hairdressers if it involved helicopters roaring overhead accompanied with exciting music? Of course you would, but as we all know it's just "snip snip". Therefore it would be wrong to expect any crazy effects from the 5.1 sound mix. It's a front speaker effort and handles both music and snipping noises to delightful effect.

SPECIAL FEATURES

But is it a special feature? Well, as cheesy 'making of' featurettes go, the sneak behind the scenes on "Blow Dry" is actually mildly entertaining. There's some background detail on the real events that this film is based on, and the delightful Rachael Leigh Cook (is she pretty? We hadn't noticed) explains how she loved working with corpses. That's your bag for extra features on this DVD.
