A film devoted to the events of 1885 when the US Army attempted to put a total end to Native American resistance, "Geronimo" impresses with its scale despite the stodgy script. It never achieved the impact of another early 90s release, "Dances With Wolves", but that hasn't stopped Columbia TriStar from putting it out on a fine, if near feature-free DVD.
Director Walter Hill opts for plenty of wide shots of the impressive Utah terrain. With the orange sand and the red skies, there's plenty of potential for a smeared result on-screen, but this never happens. Despite being almost 10 years old, the movie looks fresh, bright, and sharp with detail.
The pleasing image quality is matched with a superb new 5.1 sound mix that's rich with activity. Horses thunder between the speakers, and gunfire is underpinned with solid sub woofer effects.
Extra features consist of woefully poor cast and crew filmographies and a trailer. Fans of a good western should be pleased with the presentation of the movie though.
