Hot Shots! DVD (1991)

Jim Abrahams and Pat Proft try hard to squeeze the laughs out of this spoof of films like "Top Gun", "An Officer and a Gentleman", and many more. It's not a patch on their earlier movie, "Airplane!", but if "Hot Shots!" is a gap in your Charlie Sheen collection then you'll find the new DVD a perfect replacement for your ageing VHS copy. The icing on the cake is that it's a two-disc set with "Hot Shots! Part Deux" also included.

There's little to worry over in terms of picture quality. Some scenes look a little grainy, but they're few and far between, and the aerial shots are crystal clear.

The 2.0 surround mix offers some good steering effects and there's nearly always something occupying the rear speakers. Sylvester Levay's take on the music from "Top Gun" is aided by good bass levels, which the fighter jets get to take advantage of too.

If you fancy it, there's a trailer as an extra feature, and it's pretty handy too as it contains most of the best moments from the film.
