Just as with the DVD releases of "Star Trek: Generations" and "Star Trek: First Contact", the disc of "Star Trek V" comes with only trailers as extra features. It sure makes it quicker to review, but Paramount seems to be inviting a Khan-like wrath of "Star Trek" fans worldwide with these pitiful releases. Now is that a wise thing to be doing?
Incidentally, it gets worse! Despite a high percentage of Paramount titles being presented in anamorphic widescreen (a process which carries extra coding to create a more detailed picture on a widescreen TV), this film isn't! Apart from some print damage at the beginning, it's not a bad picture, but it's not that great either.
The new 5.1 mix does go some way to redeeming this DVD, with some good space-based speaker effects (like the appearance of the Klingons), although for the most part, the sound concentrates in the front speakers.
While this is considered by many as the weakest of the movie series, this is a poor release that may be worth holding off buying until we see if collector's edition "Star Trek" DVDs are ever to appear.
