The ludicrously overblown Bond spoof "Casino Royale" receives a rather more low-key DVD release.
While the film itself may defy description, the lurid sets and costumes amount to two hours of Technicolor madness. The picture transfer handles the mayhem well in what is often a sharp and detailed image for such an old film.
The 2.0 mono sound mix is a bit of a let down. It's strong and doesn't distort, but it would have been fun to have Burt Bacharach's wonderful score in stereo.
The only extra features are two trailers, and both illustrate perfectly the manic nature of a movie stuffed with talent but lacking any clear direction. Fans of the "Austin Powers" movies might well be tempted to purchase "Casino Royale" for a taste of its incredible but misguided enterprise.
