I Was a Hollywood Extra - Part I

EXT. GRAND OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM, DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - DAY

12:00, Saturday 4th March 2000

A most peculiar selection of people are waiting in line - from teenage girls, through 20-something men to middle-aged couples with young children. Represented were almost as many nationalities as you'd expect to see at a meeting of the United Nations. They were dressed in anything from torn jeans to party dresses. What kind of a concert could they be waiting for?

FLASHBACK TO: EXT. PUBLIC CALL BOX, HOLLYWOOD - DAY

Anyone who dreams of making it in the movies could get very excited in Hollywood. Every single phone box is adorned with leaflets boasting that they can make you an extra in a feature film. It's not until you phone them that you find out that you can't do it unless you're a US resident with a social security number.

Thank goodness, then, for the free paper, the LA Weekly, which this particular week contained an open invitation for anyone to be an extra in "Bedazzled", the Hollywood re-make of the Pete 'n' Dud classic.
