This tale of Kate Winslet as an Australian embroiled with a cultist in India is filmed in the most colour-intense landscapes in the world and is a sure test for good DVD encoding. VCI can congratulate themselves on another quality DVD release of a Film Four movie.
The film kicks off with Winslet falling under the spell of a guru. Her trance-like state induces an incredible amount of strong, garish colours that glow on this disc. Overall the picture is vibrant with minimal colour bleed. The red desert of the Outback in chapter six contrasted with the powder blue sky and pink clouds is a good example of what the disc can cope with.
The 5.1 sound works well with the various tunes from artists like Neil Diamond.
The main extra for this disc is the commentary from co-writer Anna Campion and lead star Kate Winslet. Unfortunately their 110-minute chin-wag is a bit of a bore and while a few interesting nuggets are revealed, it's ultimately a bland dissection of what is an enjoyably quirky but hardly deep film.
