Cambridge Open Studios 2009

Over 200 artists will open the doors to their studios, workshops and homes this July, letting you in for a peek at their creations and a nosey round the places where they live and work!

With 149 venues across Cambridgeshire opening their doors every weekend throughout July, you can get closer to the work of some of the county's most talented artists this summer!

The range of work on offer is almost endless; there's drawing and painting, jewellery and furniture making, photography and sculpture to name but a few - many inspired by and using materials from the local area.

Some artists exhibit individually in
their own homes, while others group together to exhibit in a gallery. It's a great chance to take a look behind the scenes and to get a glimpse of the often 'hidden' studios around the city, and many will offer tea and refreshments!

The aim of Cambridge Open Studios is to bring art to ordinary people who might feel intimidated in a more formal gallery setting, and to give those visitors the chance to talk to the artists about their work.

It also promotes the making of original works of art and craft... If you choose to buy, knowing just who and where your chosen piece has come from will make it all the more precious.

When and where?

Every weekend in July, 11am - 6pm (not all artists and venues are open every weekend).

You should be able to pick up an Open Studios brochure from libraries, pubs and restaurants around the city in the next month, or you can visit the website to find out more about the artists and venues, or to order your own brochure.

Get a taster...

If you feel overwhelmed by the huge choice of artists and venues, why not pop along to the taster exhibition at Cambridge Open Studios Gallery @ 12A running from 5th to 28th June, every Friday to Sunday, 12A High Street, Fulbourn.
