Heavy horses at Soham Carnival

Magnificent heavy horses

The stars of the day are undoubtedly the heavy horses; magnificent creatures who once did the work of modern farm machinery, and who have the strength and stamina of a dozen men. You'll be able to get up close and personal with these legendary animals between 9am and midday.

Just as the Heavy Horse Show comes to an end, the Carnival Parade of decorated vehicles sets off from Townsend, arriving at the Recreation Ground at approximately 1.45pm, for judging and prize giving by World Indoor Bowls Champion, Greg Harlow.

Among the star attractions will be Cyril The Squirrel Terrier Racing which takes place at 2.30pm and 3.30pm, Peter Leadbeater the chainsaw carver, classic and vintage vehicle shows, a birds of prey display, Punch and Judy, majorette performances and much more...

There will also be a huge assortment of stalls by local organisations and tradesmen, sideshows, funfair, food and refreshments, and of course - a licensed beer tent.

The only thing we can't guarantee to be perfect is the weather - but then what English summer day would be complete without a few raindrops?
