But our campaign turned your unwanted phones into cash, and that cash into funds to train a brand new Guide Puppy. May we introduce you to the delightful Darcy... Back in 2006, Afternoon Show presenter, Sue Dougan, together with our Action Desk staff, asked you to send your old mobile phones to Guide Dogs for the Blind, so that we could sponsor a puppy through its training. We needed 1,429 phones to raise the £5,000 it costs to train a puppy to become a guide dog, and thanks to the listeners of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, we received more than that number, and have at last been allocated a puppy! ![]() See our puppy gallery for some gorgeous photos of Darcy's radio debut: Darcy, was born on 22nd October 2008; one of a litter of six to mum, Tammy and dad, Sammy. She was named after the Cambridgeshire village of Offord D'Arcy and now she's over eight weeks old, Darcy is working with her volunteer puppy walker, Councillor John Reynolds. He will get Darcy used to the noise, hustle and bustle of roads, transport and shops before she goes off to puppy school when she's a year old. We will be following Darcy's progress on air and on this website and setting her some challenges over the coming months. The first of these will be a visit to her namesake village, Offord D'Arcy, where we think the locals will be as charmed by her as we are here at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. And it's all thanks to you for generously donating your mobile phones to sponsor Darcy's care and training. To find out more about the training Darcy will go through with Guide Dogs for the Blind, visit: www.guidedogs.org.uk.
