Cambridge Beer Festival

"No, mum. I'm in the library..."

Cambridge Beer Festival 2008

It's in its 35th year, making it the country's oldest beer festival, and it's second only in size to London. Enjoy a week of beer-swilling as CAMRA rolls out the barrels on Jesus Green once again.

Cambridge CAMRA Beer Festival, Jesus Green, Monday 19th May to Saturday 24th May 2008

Over 32,000 beer and cider-lovers attended last year's CAMRA festival - and if you were in the queue which wended its way three times around the main marquee - you could well believe it!

Still, it's on for a week, so there's plenty of opportunity to pick one of the less popular nights (ie, if you go at peak time on the Friday night you KNOW what to expect!).

On offer this year are over 170 real ales, 150 real ciders, and 60 foreign beers, English wines and Mead, that strange perry stuff and wine for the laydeez (plus the famous cheese counter - another big queue, by the way!).

Fancy wearing a dress?

On the Friday, to celebrate Oak Apple Day (the day Great Granny Smith discovered her namesake dangling from a large tree on Jesus Green), you're invited to come along dressed as a wench (not to be mistaken with 'wrench' or other hand tools) - or a cavalier (not the popular vehicle made by Vauxhall). Or you could just grab one of those balloon hats and sport it proudly atop your slightly fuzzy head.

Eat - while you drink and get merry

As well as cheese, glorious cheese, you'll find a whole host of delicious delights with which to tempt your taste buds. Try some of these before you lose all the feeling in your face.

Details, details, details...

Opening Times: Monday 19th May: 5pm to 10.30pm

Tuesday 20th – Friday 23rd May: 11am to 3pm and 5pm to 10.30pm

Drink sensibly

We feel compelled to remind you to drink sensibly and in moderation but no doubt these words will fall on deaf ears as it is, after all, a beer festival and you're not gonna pay attention us anyway, are you?

Pictures of beer

Would you like to see some pictures of beer - so you'll know what to look for on the night? Here's a fine selection from last year's festival:

And if you'd like to send us some from this year's event, we'll bung 'em in a gallery.
