Modified car

Look - it's got wings!

Men, motors and much, much more...

It's an adrenaline and testosterone-fuelled weekend for petrol-heads and party animals alike. Big cars, big egos ("mine's bigger than yours"), and big, big fun.

The Ultimate Car Show, East of England Showground, 24th and 25th May (times and ticket details at the foot of this page)

Or, to give it its official title - The Modified Nationals Modified Car Show - catchy, huh? However, you're not going to quibble over that if you're the proud owner of a souped-up Suzuki or a modified Mini.

In fact, this event has evolved into much more than a car show... it's a full-on weekend attracting over 20,000 petrol-heads from all over the UK and beyond.

Monster truck

Those cars were rubbish, anyway...

Alongside the brightest, shiniest cars - you know, the ones that make you go weak at the knees, and the ones that make you scratch your head and ask, "why??" - you'll find monster trucks and the downright dangerous sounding Crazy Flaming Stuntman (don't try this at home, boys and girls). Oh, and don't forget the Soapbox Drag Race. Now that DOES sound like fun.

Apparently, there's a Bikini Babe competition (let's hope the weather warms up) and plenty of lovely ladies draping themselves over cars in the trade stands. Now, initially that elicits a Germaine Greer-esque grunt from me, however, on second thoughts, if a scantily-clad George Clooney was lolling around on the bonnet of my Yaris in the BBC car park, I wouldn't say no.

Motorbike stunt (mikezite.co.uk)

When bikes go bad...

I love the nightlife, I got to boogie...

Come sun-down, you might have had your fill of motors, and, as this is a full weekender event, you can have a jolly good bop in one of the club tents or avail yourself of a little light music from one of the many live bands before turning in for an early night in your tent.

Er... what do you mean you forgot your tent? Well, go curl up in the back of your massive motor, then. And this is probably the moment you regret removing that comfy back seat and replacing it with a monster stereo system!
