No? Well, ok, that might be taking poetic license to the extreme but come May, it's definitely the Heart of the World as the annual celebration of all things worldly and musical hits the city The Heart of the World Festival is a 10-day celebration of all things musical, arty and cultural, with events taking place right across Cambridge. Thursday 1st May to Sunday 11th May, various venuesHighlights include a performance by blues and jazz vocalist, Jose James, who opens the festival at the Junction on 1st May, Tibetan Monks, and the Mugenyo Taiko Drummers. There are plenty of free events and demonstrations, plus a special family day on Sunday 11th May at the Cambridge Guildhall. World Music and World FilmAt The Barfly (Graduate pub), on Chesterton Road, 7.30pm on Tuesday 6th May (FREE). ![]() Tibetan monks performing Tibetan Monks - the sacred sounds of TibetComplete with chanting of mantras, bells, cymbals, drums and the sound of the long horns.Tibetan monks from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery present sacred dances, music and prayers, with traditional costumes and ceremonial masks. African and Salsa dance class and performanceKanda Bongo Man's music gave birth to the kwassa kwassa dance rhythm where the hips move back and forth while the hands move to follow the hips... still with me? If not, join in the dance class before the performance at the Junction on Friday 9th May. Booking on 01223 511511. Heart of the World Family Day - and it's FREE!Music, dancing, workshops, competitions and activities for all the family. Try your hand at the art of Chinese Paper Cutting or Origami. There'll be Flamenco dancing, African Salsa and African and Cuban drumming sessions. Also competitions and quizzes with prizes as well as a chance to make your own instrument. Sunday 11th May, 12 noon to 4pm at the Cambridge Guildhall (FREE).
