A daffodil

It's not just about daffodils....

Daft about daffodils?

This annual spectacle draws the crowds from far and wide as flower-fanciers flock to our county for the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend.

The 40th Thriplow Daffodil Weekend takes place this year on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th April 2008 from 11am-5pm, and promises all the usual attractions including folk music, a swing band, heavy horse rides and, of course, thousands of beautiful daffodils!

Daffodil Weekend: 12th and 13th April from 11am-5pm in Thriplow village

The Thriplow Daffodil Weekend is a sight and sound for the senses! 8,000 visitors a year enjoy this unique event which raises money for charity.

There are plenty of activities for the whole family - so take your choice:

  • Wander at your leisure, walk round the lanes and footpaths or visit the open gardens.
  • Be transported by the melodious music of organ and violin recitals.
  • Enjoy the Flower Festival in the village church.
  • Step back in time and visit the village Smithy which will be operating for the weekend.
  • Listen to the dulcit tones of the Whittlesford Red Lion Folk Club performing some marvellous music whilst sipping your tea.
  • Enjoy the sassy sound of the Perse School Swing Band who will have your toes tapping.
  • Take a dray ride with the Heavy Horses through the village.

All the usual attractions will be on offer - private gardens will be open, you'll find a display of vintage vehicles, home made teas and scrumptious cakes will be served at various locations, stalls on the green, an arts and craft marquee, sheep dog demonstrations, birds of prey, children's entertainment and much more - something for everyone!

The festival raises money for charity and this year the village's chosen charity is the Parkinson's Disease Society.

With hot and cold lunches available, you can spend the whole day here for just five of your fine English pounds for adults, which includes parking. Tickets for children are £2 and those under school age go free. There's also a free minibus to take visitors to the various locations around Thriplow.

The village of Thriplow can be found 8 miles south of Cambridge, near Duxford Imperial War Museum.
