There's a circus in the townThere's nothing like a trip to the Big Top. It has all the skill, dexterity, humour and acrobatics of your local football game - so roll up roll up, the circus isn't in town for long. Moscow State Circus, Tues 29th Jan - Sun 3rd Feb 2008, Cambridge Corn ExchangeYou know where you are when you catch that familiar whiff of sawdust. You're either at the circus, or in a hamster cage. Either way you know you're in for a good time. The Russian circus industry isn't exactly what is used to be. It was strongly supported by the communist state and many former USSR Big Top canvases came down alongside the sound of Berlin Wall bricks hitting the floor. ![]() Moscow Circus Copyright Terry Harris However, the Moscow State Circus is still regarded as one of the world's greatest shows and continues its seemingly infinite tour of the UK in early 2008. Traditionally erected on Midsummer Common this year sees the Big Top toppled and the action migrating to the bowels of the Cambridge Corn Exchange. The usual escapades can be expected - tight rope walkers, trapeze artists and a smattering of clowns - but there's also some extra special treats. For example, if Astronov the Human Cannonball doesn't sound like something worth the admission fee, then I don't know what is. On top of that there'll be magicians, acrobatics and the usual array of circus themed food and treats - toffee apple anyone!?
