Christmas: The big switch-on!

From Wisbech to Whittlesey, the sparkly, spangly Christmas lights will be cheering up a town centre street or two near you over the coming weeks. Don't miss out on your chance to go "ooh" and "ahh"...

Peterborough - Saturday 17th Nov: Switch-on at 5.30pm

A packed programme of entertainment in Cathedral Square from 3pm, with a Frank Sinatra tribute act kicking-off the live entertainment from 4.15pm, including a flying visit from the Key Theatre's panto, Mother Goose and the Demon Ringmaster. Daniel De Bourg who thrilled millions of TV viewers with performances on ITV's X-Factor and Coronation Street's Richard Fleeshman will be switching on the lights at 5.30pm

Cambridge - Sunday 18th Nov: Switch-on at 5pm

Entertainment in Market Square and Lion Yard from 1pm-6pm, including choirs, jazz, orchestras, theatre groups and a storyteller. The Christmas Parade starts at 4pm from outside the old John Lewis store in Burleigh street, arriving in Market Square at 4.45pm.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm by Stephanie McIntosh (Sky Mangle from Neighbours) together with the Mayor and Mayoress, Father and Mother Christmas, stars from the ice ballet and presenters from Q103.

Wisbech - Friday 23rd Nov: Switch-on at 6pm

An afternoon and evening of entertainment in the marketplace including panto characters, live music and a funfair. The Mayor's Lantern Parade will leave the council chambers, accompanied by Father Christmas, and the lights will be switched on at 6pm.

Huntingdon - Sunday 25th November: Switch-on at 4.30pm

Entertainment from 2pm-5pm with a fairy stilt walker; stalls in the Market Square, farmers’ market traders with seasonal produce, mulled wine and mince pies and a selection of food stalls including a traditional hog roast. Live performances from local dance and drama groups, choirs and music groups, and jazz bands plus a craft fair with stalls selling handmade crafts.

The procession through the High Street begins at 4.10pm led by The Mayor of Huntingdon and Santa’s Sleigh. The Mayor will switch on the Christmas Lights at 4.30pm.

St Neots - Friday 30th Nov: Switch-on at 7pm

The evening kicks off with a children's funfair at 6pm followed by entertainment in market Square from 6.15pm. Watch the High Street Parade at 6.40pm and at 7pm, Chas 'n' Dave will switch on the lights. Entertainment will keep going until 8.15pm.

Ely - Friday 30th Nov: Switch-on at 6.45pm

The Market Place in Ely will be alive with entertainment from 4pm to 8pm with music, dancing, singing and lots of Christmas street entertainment, festive refreshments and craft stalls plus Santa's Grotto. The Mayor will switch on the lights at 6.45pm and then you can take a tour on an open-top bus to fully appreciate them! There will also be a carol-singing parade and a small funfair.

Daniel DeBourg was brilliant at the Ely Light Switch on. My friends went bazzurch. We had to wait for him for 10 minutes they were that mad about him!
