The great British tomato. Is there anything you can't do with it? If you're potty about this fabulous fruit, then you'll love this delicious festival dedicated solely to the tasty tomato. Wimpole Estate Tomato Festival - Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August, 2007You can slice 'em in your salad, fry them, bake them, roast them, grill them - and if you're Italian, you probably can't live without them! What is this little culinary miracle? Why, the tomato, of course! And at Wimpole Hall, they've got over 60 different types to tantalise and tempt your tastebuds. And they're bringing them all out on show on 18th and 19th August in a tom-tastic Tomato Festival. They grow them all themselves - in their lovely walled garden, you know! This isn't just a day out for those who like to admire the shiny, red (or yellow, or green) fruit from afar, though. You can taste them, try out lots of different recipes, find out how they're grown, and even learn about the history of the tomato. And, what about taking part in what must surely be the highlight of the weekend - the 'guess the weight of the tomato' competition - now, how exciting is that? There are loads of other things to keep the family amused, including a bee-keeper, plant sale and stuff for the kids to do. And of course, the farm, hall, park and gardens will all be open as usual.
