Summer in the City 2007Cambridge residents are getting excited about a summer packed full of fabulous events, taking place throughout the city. What's more, most of the events are free! Enjoy a cacophony of live music, dance the summer nights away, and prepare to be entertained whilst chilling out in our city parks. Highlights include the annual Big Weekend on Parker's Piece and the Comedy Marquee on Jesus Green. ![]() The Big Weekend! The Big Weekend 6th to 8th JulyThe Big Weekend grows in popularity every year and it’s easy to see why. Lasting three days - from Friday 6th July to Sunday 8th July - it’s a weekend crammed full of open air concerts, dancing, and fairground rides with mouth-watering food and a bar marquee on Parker’s Piece, in the heart of Cambridge. Pop in the Park will take place on Parker’s Piece from 6pm to 10pm on Friday 6th July. Acts are to be confirmed, but the music will certainly appeal to young and old, with Motown Memories headlining who will surely take you back to the halcyon days of the Motown era. The Big Day Out is on Saturday 7th July, again on Parker’s Piece, it starts at 12pm and promises over ten hours of non-stop entertainment. The Cavern Beatles will headline on the main stage, or you can groove away to the funky jazz sounds of well known local band, Capricorn, in the Fringe Tent. Also on offer is energetic Capoeira dancing, but if you fancy a more sedate experience head to the Tea Tent where you can enjoy a fresh brew as well as the afternoon tea dance. The day culminates in a firework display at 10pm. ![]() World music fans can enjoy a celebration of global beats at Summer Sunday on 8th July, from 12pm, with live music showcasing talents from North Africa, Senegal, Latin America and elsewhere. Balkan Beat Box promise a fusion of electronica and Eastern folk music, the popular local African-influenced band Matoke play on the main stage, and DJ Skunk will be compering in the Fringe tent where you can enjoy Samba music and join in with an Indian dancing troupe. Blast on Tour 7th to 8th JulyAs part of the Big Weekend, the BBC’s Blast on Tour provides local youngsters with opportunities to get involved in all aspects of media and technology, allowing them to explore careers in the arts and sciences. Blast is aimed at young people between 13 and 19 years of age, you can experiment with art, music, writing, filmmaking, script writing, graffiti, dance, DJ-ing, radio production, photography and much more. Comedy Marquee 31st July to 5th AugustThe promise of the UK’s most talented comedians appearing at the Comedy Marquee on Jesus Green means you'd better get your tickets early to avoid disappointment! Four comedians appear nightly from 31st July until 5th August.
