The magnificent Heavy Horse

Horsing around in Soham!

The good old fashioned English fair is alive and well, and taking place in Soham this Bank Holiday Monday, May 28th, when the town celebrates the 54th Soham Carnival and Heavy Horse Fair...

Soham Carnival

Monday 28th May: 9am-5pm

@ The Recreation Ground, Fountain Lane, Soham

Heavy Horse Show from 9am-1pm, parade from 1pm, and vintage car show from 3.45pm.

Admission £3 adults, £2.50 concessions, 50p children (16 and under).

Heavy Horses, vintage cars and tractors, children's games, Punch and Judy, cream teas and much more - take a trip back to bygone days this Bank Holiday Monday at a traditional English fair first held in 1953 to celebrate the Queen's Coronation.

The stars of the day are undoubtedly the Heavy Horses; magnificent creatures who once did the work of modern farm machinery, and who have the strength and stamina of a dozen men. You'll be able to get up close and personal with these legendary animals between 9am and 1pm.

Just as the Heavy Horse show comes to an end, the Carnival Parade of Decorated Vehicles sets off from Townsend, arriving at the Recreation Ground at approximately 1.45pm, for judging by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's very own legend, Mr Richard Spendlove, MBE.

The Vintage and Classic Vehicle show kicks off at 3.45pm, with an array of cars, vans, motorbikes, tractors and lorries to delight even the most discerning enthusiast. And as if all that wasn't enough, the day also promises a fun fair, real ale bar, games and entertainment for children, a barbecue, a variety of stalls, and much, much more!

Then only thing we can't guarantee to be perfect is the weather - but then what English summer day would be complete without a few raindrops?
