Art: TRASH, The Haddenham Galleries, Ely Here at the online team we often feel our talents are wasted sat at a BBC computer, haplessly jabbing keys in a catatonic state. But hey, it pays for our addiction to penny chews and fizzy cola bottles, which by the way, very rarely cost the penny that the name so blatantly implies.

But if we'd have been a clever bunch, we'd have thought of taking the useless stuff that everybody finds too disgusting to stomach and turned it into something beautiful. Needless to say, we failed miserably: the Smart Car is still stupid, Hollyoaks is still stupid, and pets in human clothes are, still, stupid. But the artists over at the Haddenham Galleries seem to have got it right. They've turned old junk, unwanted trash and mounds of mess into glorious pieces of work. So, it's pretty to look at, and it's environmentally friendly? David Cameron would be proud. TRASH is on until 28th April, 2007 at the Haddenham Galleries, Haddenham, Ely and is free to enter. Call 01353 749188 for more details. Event: St George's fun day, Longstanton We've got so much to be thankful for here in England. Pizza, caffe lattes, Playstations, and After Eights. None of this would be possible if it were not for St George of course, who had his head removed from his body by some lovely Romans for admitting to his love of Christianity.

Great Grandpa Osborne was almost beheaded once by Richard Madeley for admitting his love for Judy Finnigan, so he always related to George's plight. So to celebrate George, or even Great Grandpa Osborne's memory, the Friends of All Saints Church in Longstanton are having a family fun day, which includes live music, have-a-go archery and farmyard tasks. But, most importantly, there will be farmyard olympics, so those of you who specialise in welly wanging or bale rolling should get yourselves down. Entrance to the fun day is free and is on Saturday 21st April, 2007, 2pm - 6pm at Longstanton recreation ground. Call John Frost on 01954 782782 for more details. Event: Bed push, Peterborough city centre I'm sure many weird things have found their way through the centre of Peterborough. In fact, on an early episode of Family Fortunes, 100 people were asked what they thought the most common thing to be found on Peterborough high street might be. The survey said: former American President Calvin Coolidge. Honest.

But the streets of Peterborough might look a little more conventional on Saturday when the Sue Ryder Care fundraisers will be staging a bed-push race while in fancy dress. All the beds will come complete with "patient" - meaning if they fall off and get hurt they've only got to be put back on again and they're in a hospital bed - and will be pushed by a range of people from the community, including firemen, solicitors, policemen and hospital staff. The fun starts at 10am on Saturday 21st April, 2007, with each team racing along the Long Causeway from Cathedral Square. It's free to watch, but they're raising money for Thorpe Hall Hospice, so give generously! |
