Jukebox car
David's musical mean machine

Groovy, man!

BBC Radio Cambridgeshire/Look East
David Dew, from Somersham, is a retired coach driver with a passion. A passion for old cars, old music, and old jukeboxes!

David's got a dream of a drive...

David Dew's achieved what most of us only dream about - he's managed to combine all three of his passions in life into one gleaming, fuschia pink, musical mean machine.

Jukebox car
Under the bonnet

With a mere £1,000, two years' hard work, and a lot of help from his friends, he now has half of an old Austin A35 - in shocking pink - complete with a 299-track jukebox inserted under the bonnet.

"It’s a 1957 A35, in half - I bought it for spares to finish renovating another A35," explains David. "My son (Simon, 37) sprayed it. He decided pink would be the colour.  The Jukebox originated from a pub in London but we got it off Ebay."

"I'm chuffed to bits with it"
David Dew

The finished jukebox car is already in demand at local events - but David says he won't be charging a penny for his labour of love.

The car was bought, already in a dilapidated state, for the princely sum of £120. The front half had already had a makeover, but the other half was ready for the scrap heap!

Half an old car
Er, any ideas for the rear end?

David says it's hard to put a price on what it's worth now, but, being a bit of a guru when it comes to jukeboxes, he claims that it's possible to buy unusual examples like this for about £8,000.

So will he sell it? "I don't charge anything for it," he says. "I've got friends who use it and I used it for my wife's birthday the other week. No, I'm definitely not selling it."

Mr Guy Dow
hi , with regards the rear of the car used for the duke box, how about it being used as a seat in the garden , thats if its still got the rear seats

James allen
Make the back half into a couch, by upholstering the boot. put it against a different wall of the same room, also painted pink.

Michael Summers
Wow! This is amazing, If I was David I'd sell it and make a few bob!
