Peter Wright is retiring from Hazel Oak School, Solihull, after twenty five
years. He recently won the prestigious regional DfES Innovation Unit Award for
Lifetime Achievement in the West Midlands, for his work in the all-age special
school. He reflects on his time at Hazel Oak, and talks about his future. More

update: On Sunday October 17 2005, Peter won the National DfES Innovation
Unit Award for Lifetime Achievement, at a ceremony held at the Theatre Royal in
London. Celebrities who presented the nation's top ten teachers with their trophies
included Pride & Prejudice actor Matthew Macfadyen, Brenda Blethyn, and Lord
